I corrected the term before, if I missed it somewhere consider it "2nd rate". I am still not sure what feature about it makes it "2nd rate". The winding is about the best, the tolerances are among good and from all my print experiences, it does not clog and prints very nicely on an Mk3, it also works very well with MMUs, more so than many other brands (not entirely unexpected if material and equipement comes from the same company). That is at least the case for PLAs, we can discuss PETGs, they tend to string more but then PETG is generally stringy. Now you can say that the more expensive filament isn't much better than cheaper one in many regards, but that doesn't make it 2nd rate either, but merely "not better".

Do 1kg of PLA or PETG cost 40 USD in the US? IN Europe they are 30 EUR/kg and that is definitely a common price. Premium Chinese brands aren't any cheaper, for European brands that is quite a normal price.

But this is all a value discussion. "2nd rate" isn't about value but quality. So I would like to understand what quality parameter is inferior with Prusament and maybe which material you mean specifically.

The discussion was about Prusameters as well, so there only shipping matters and like I said, shipping is a non-issue on the continent where Prusa is located. Try ordering some of the popular US brands in Europe and you'll drown in fees and shipping just as well. That doesn't make any of them 2nd rate.

Second hand assumes used, as in previously owned. Second rate means it's not first rate, or best quality. I've used Prusa filament, and have a number of spools. I find it to be just fine but certainly no better than $15 Chinese filament. It certainly doesn't warrant $40 a spool and a $18 shipping charge, plus two weeks to ship and another week in transit. I can order a roll of CR-PETG on Amazon and it will be at my door the next day for zero in shipping.

What exactly is 2nd rate about the Prusament filaments? Maybe it is too expensive for what it is (even though I would point out that their prices are not uncommon for good European brands and even some reputable Chinese ones) but what quality deficiencies are you referring to specifically? Mind you, quality, not price/value.

Shipping is an issue well known and totally true for the US, but an absolute none-issue for Europe. It is a European brand and the internet platform is also a Europe based one. US brands also commonly don't offer attractive shipping to Europe either and no one calls their filaments 2nd rate because of that either.

The 30 downloads per month are indeed a steep minimum requirement given that the download count on printables is not exaggerated by non-unique download numbers (I think other platforms are less picky there and just count any download). While popular or even evergreen models can exceed this by orders of magnitude for members without a large number of followers, unless you are really lucky and hit a nerve, it is not so easy to get passed that.

It took me some time to get a single model that persistently managed to get above that and now I managed a second model. The former was a giant project that took me forever and the later is also a pretty sizable project too.

I meant to reply to this earlier but was busy. With the exception of having gotten a few PMs briefly because I had a model that did relatively well in one of the contests, I am more or less in the same boat as you. I have several models that are downloaded consistently, but not enough to get to the threshold of getting any Prusameters. So what? You have to ask yourself why you are sharing your models in the first place. In my case, it's because I derive enjoyment from doing so. If I happen to have something that becomes popular enough to net a few PMs, then that's great but it isn't a motivating factor for me. I think trying to create and share models in the hopes of garnering some free filament is a low margin proposition, but you do you. Feeling like a loser over it is ultimately a choice.

If you do want to get a model more attention (whether for PMs, bragging rights, recognition, or whatever), try entering one of the contests. You may have already done that for all I know, but it's the easiest way for a user who doesn't otherwise have a big following or a way to promote their work, to get a model in front of a bigger audience than would otherwise see it. The downside of this is that because the rules generally exclude pre-existing models, you have to specifically target a contest when it is opened, and within the artificial time frame imposed by the rules. But if your goal really is to get more downloads, it is a more efficient way to target your efforts.
