Could a Kodi Box (Android box) be used instead of raspberry pi?
I have one or two redundant Kodi Boxes,
could they be repurposed for 3d printer control?

when you find a way to install linux on it, it should work to get octopi working on it.

It should work:

Once you have linux on it, then just install octoprint. Some plugins might not work, need to be compiled but in general I don't see a reason why not.

In my opinion, it is replaceable, it is quite strong and I have installed cinema hd app and it runs smoother than that application on Raspberry Pi.

Thank you,
Time has moved on,
Covid 19 has separated me from my and I now have a Canvas Hub S, which is like a Raspberry Pi. and connects my Laptop to both My printer and Palette2S
the Hub S runs a flavour of Octoprint, and saves me Juggling SD cards.
