Cleaning PETG of of a brass brush?

I'm getting into printing PETG. Sticky stuff. I brush my brass nozzle and the heater block of boogers every print.

My 89 cent Harbor Freight brass brushes get the boogers on them, Seems a shame to throw them away for some stuck on PETG.

Anyone know how to clean the PETG off the brush? Any release agent I might use on the brush to help prevent the PETG from sticking to it?

I just pull them off and usually the come off without too much trouble.

I consider those brushes to be consumable items.  The brass ones will not remain straight after a couple of months of use.

You can also use a strip of cardboard to scrape off most of the gunk. Do it when the nozzle is hot enough to soften but not fully melt the filament and most of it pulls away cleanly. I still have brass brushes, but don't need them often.

@jsw

Thanks. I've pulled out some globs, but sometimes bristles come out with them. I don't want to reintroduce globs back onto the nozzle/heater block and for the brush to last more than one usage. 😀

I've used a lighter on the globs too. Doesn't really burn them off. I'll try the lighter and brushing over cardboard.

Great idea with the cardboard. Now I wish I hadn't thrown away the cardboard cat scratching pad the cats weren't using!
