Buyer beware
I live in the United States. I just paid $296 in import fees for a Prusa Core One. That was on top of the $1718.14 I paid Prusa for the printer. Just FYI.
That's the fault of your government - and why a lot of shippers are very cautious about delivering anything to the USA as so many clueless purchasers are refusing to pay causing unpaid returns and onerous paperwork - it's you who has to pay the tariffs.
Cheerio,
RE:
I wonder if prices at https://printersolid.com are better for the people in US?
They were acquired by Prusa and assemble printers in USA.
See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
RE: Buyer beware
I just purchased two spools of PLA from Printed Solid. The total price with shipping was $62.20. The same two spools form Prusa, with shipping would be $75.56. But that doesn't include any Tariff charges. While buying the filament at Printed Solid I was shocked to see that they now have the Core One in stock for only $1299. If I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all. 😩 😀

Prusa now includes the tariff charges in the price quote. The irony though of ordering from Prusa.. I get it 3-4 days faster (from Europe) than ordering domestically from PrintedSolid and occasionally it's still cheaper to order from Prusa. Also, depending on which state you are from you will get hit with sales tax. When I factor in the 12% taxes I'm paying for a domestic shipment, the 15% tariff charge + the cheaper and faster shipping can sometimes make direct from Prusa a better bargain.
RE: Buyer beware
Just the opposite for me. My shipment sat in Customs clearance for 10 days because they said they didn't have the proper paperwork. I contacted Prusa since FedEx wouldn't talk to me. Eventually Prusa sent the necessary papers and the Core One was released for shipment.
RE: Buyer beware
Prusa actually is selling on Amazon again, you could get them there next day for slightly cheaper than with the tariff direct, sometimes.
RE: Buyer beware
I’m planning on making as much of my purchases through Printed Solid to support Prusa’s localization program. Regardless of the short term issues, I think it will result in better overall service once the kinks are worked out.
RE: Buyer beware
If it makes you guys in the US feel any better -- in Europe we pay on the order of 20% VAT on all purchases, whether domestic or coming from another EU country. (The exact rate varies by country, ranging from 17 to 27% or so.)
At least VAT must already be included in the sticker price when selling to consumers, so it does not come as a nasty surprise. But e.g. for Prusa, their net prices are on par for the US and EU markets -- so in the end, it's probably a wash whether you add US duties and higher shipping cost, or EU VAT and cheaper continental shipping.
RE: Buyer beware
I lived in Rome, Lyons, Athens and Paris over my career. I'm very familiar with the VAT. Since I wasn't required to pay the Vat when I ordered items from Europe while living in the states, sometimes those items were cheaper than locally sourced ones. Not anymore.

Check the order summary on their site now for "Duties and Taxes". That's what's on mine from the other day.

RE:
I just paid $37 in duties from DHL on a $72 order. This is getting stupid... Support American business? When this stuff isn't or can't be made here? So DHL held my shipment until I paid the ransom on it. And what is with the $17 "duty processing fee?" Three more years to wait out this nightmare...
RE: Buyer beware
And what is with the $17 "duty processing fee?"
That goes to DHL, for their valuable services in collecting the actual customs duties from you. 😠
When ordering from overseas, I prefer vendors who offer DDP shipping terms. "Delivered Duty Paid", i.e. you pay the duties right at the point of sale and they get transferred to customs in the buyer's country. That largely avoids the extortion fees which the shipping companies charge when they get to "serve" the recipient.
(It's an absurd scheme which should be made illegal. DHL has been contracted by the shipper -- who has probably negotiated attractive terms -- but gets to charge the recipient, who does not have any chance to negotiate. And apparently DHL fleece the recipient as they deem fit. I understand that in principle DHL need to offer you the option to take your shipment through customs yourself -- but with customs offices in some remote location at a port or airport, that is often impractical.)
I prefer vendors who offer DDP shipping terms.
Which has been a nightmare to manage wrt the USA recently. The duty (tariffs) have been changing so much that vendors have to check almost daily to find the current rate, when changes are due they have to check on which day (and possibly time depending on timezone) the goods will cross the USA border - not the shipping date, and all at the whim of a foreign wannabe despot ... then payments have to be declared and rendered with arcane documentation declaring which tariff was applicable, what rate was applied and when.
Luckily most sellers who get it wrong can't be arrested until they choose to visit the USA.
Cheerio,
