RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
Thanks for the camera info... I felt that this was the case. I have a Prusa MK4S and a BBL P1S. Both are great. I don't really care about the cloud either. I do have a camera set up on a tripod for my Prusa... and I want the camera on the P1S... and this is mainly so I don't have to go up and down the stairs all the time to check up on a print. I use both Prusa Slicer and Orca Slicer with the Prusa. Prusa does everything perfectly except LW-PLA. I cannot get a good print out of Prusa Slicer. Orca Slicer gives me a wonderful print. I use only Orca Slicer with the P1S. So, my only real concern is losing Orca Slicer if they decided not to update their slicer for BBL.
It all somewhat speculation right now.. but as I understand it.. the camera requires the cloud service and so you won't be able to use the built-in camera in Lan mode. You could get a HomeKit/Google camera and connect to it using a home app. I do that with my MK3S+ and it likely works better for me because I use HomeKit quite a bit and the camera feed is right there.. (but I have an open frame printer and the camera is easily mounted outside) Realistically, if I use Prusa, I'd use Prusa slicer and if I were to get a Bambu, likely I'd use their slicer. Bambu's filament is good and it's cheap here so the practical endgame is that it won't mean that much to many home users who just have 1 printer and want to print something. I don't worry too much about connecting to their cloud.. virtually everything today is cloud based.
OrcaSlicer would still have to go thru the BambuConnect system and whether they would make the video feed available to them, I think, remains to be seen. Impossible to know all the details until they release their new firmware and people start to test.. and even then.. if there is too much fuss, they might open some stuff up more.
I understand most of what LAN mode means, however I'm a bit confused about the camera. Using Orca Slicer I can see through the camera on the Device tab, but can I see through the camera on my phone, attached to the network, while I'm on another floor of the house? I understand I can't use the HandyApp, but can I do something else that will allow me to see through the camera to periodically check on a print?
RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
I'd be digging deeper into the Orca settings you use for LW-PLA and then test them on your Prusa or Bambu slicer.. If you can determine the magic, maybe you can tweak and save a profile in the 2 other slicers that will work when you print with the lightweight stuff.. (assume planes?).

Yes... lots of planes. I go back to PS every once in a while... but you're right... I need to dive deep on this one. I know Prusa tweeked for 3DLabPrint planes but I'm not crazy about vase/sprial mode planes... too flimsy. I can get a perfect skin on an "infill" design (PlanePrint) with Orca Slicer, but PS has been evading me.

RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
You can still use the camera in LAN mode - albeit not remotely. So it cannot be used via the Handy app (the app cant be used if the printer is in LAN mode anyways). You can still connect to the printer via the Bambu Slicer software on your computer, and you can still view the camera via the connection to your computer......
RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
The camera in LAN mode means I can see through the camera via Bambu Slicer or Orca Slicer... on my PC... which is next to the P1S. So... I can just look at the printer myself. But you say I can still view the camera via the connection to my computer. Do you mean via the slicer, or another means? Can I be on another floor and see through the camera?

You can be on any floor you like and you will see through the camera as you currently do using BambuSlicer (via a wireless laptop for instance) - however you must be on the same LAN/network as the printer. As soon as you move to a different network that's when you fall into the remote services category.

RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
For example - I work off of my wireless laptop and have my printer in LAN only mode.
I can send a print job to my printer and then go downstairs and use my same laptop to keep an eye on the printer stats and camera - because I am still on the same LAN/network.
As soon as I go outside of my network - say I connect to my neighbours wifi - then thats outside of the printers LAN, so will no longer see the camera. You would need to use the cloud services for this.
RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
Understood. No laptops here... only an iPhone. Someone will figure out a way to tap into the network and get to the camera.

RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
As of now, I would wait and see the full actions of Bambu Lab before considering any of their products. From previous threads, after this announcement, this is sounding like a bait and switch. Promise being open and accessible and then change to closed and locked down and blaming security.
Buyer beware. I know of one person that has cancelled their Bambu order due to the firmware changes.
RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
I'm honestly very glad they pulled their shenanigans when they did. I was extremely close to buying a X1-Carbon with AMS. I was going to pick it up at the end of the same week they did this. Instead I ordered a Core One for the same (local) price. I won't get the AMS which I was looking forward to, but I'll have a look once the Core One version comes out and make a decision then.
I've never printed multi-color prints and will be moving up from an Ender 3 Pro that I've had for ages so I'm extremely excited for the upgrade.
RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
I haven't seen as big a backlash as this for a long, long time. I can barely remember what it was about... Apple iPhone maybe? Batteries? This will hurt BBL. So many have cancelled orders and already plan on replacing their BBL printers. This means no filament, no parts, no everything... and... every single person these people talk to are going to be led away from BBL. Some companies simply do stupid things and if BBL was truly planning on hurting their base I hope this reaction has made them rethink. Either way, they've lost customers. I'm waiting to see what happens with Orca. If Orca gets dumped then I'll have no interest in BBL. I'm not really that concerned about the cloud stuff, I don't use LAN mode now and I don't feel exposed. It's that Orca part I'm watching.

RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
Most commercial users flock to printers based on word of mouth so you might be right. It might hurt Bambu. I will say that there are a lot of noncloud alternatives to Bambu that work well today. Anycubic, Creality, Fusion, and Elegoo just to name a few.

Agreed, and hobbyists too. I have a Prusa MK4S and plan on either upgrading to or buying the Core One. I have a P1S and the only reason I have it is because of the good word everyone had about it and a friend of mine had bought 2 last year. If the word had not been good and he had not bought 2 I would not have purchased. If I were making up my mind today, I would hold off until the dust settles.

RE: Bambu Lab new fireware
As i said multiple times i dont own a BL. But i dont understand what is the actual problem. A company that it was obvious from the beginning it wasnt open source, decided to drop all 3rd party slicer interface support. Did the company claimed that it will be keeping software support on 3rd party applications when they bought their printers? Did it claim that it will work seamlessly with orcaslicer or any other product? It will keep working if you use the "official" software the was presented on the first day. Is like buying a car, hacking the infosystem and on the next update you are complaining why it doesnt support your 3r party stuff. Im not advocating for BL because i like them. I dont care more or less. But i have prusas that are more expensive and nobody expects for them to work with octoprint or orcaliscer forever. At least i dont. I expect them to work with Prusaslicer and prusa connect. I expect them to have solid official firmware. The only thing that makes sense to complain about , is if they have ADDITIONAL limitations to print in LAN mode , in comparison to when someone bought the product. I dont think they will loose from hobbyists so much. Probably from print farms that use Orcaslicer etc. BL was cheap and with good reviews. Prusa has good reviews but with higher cost, that accumulates on a printer farm. There is always the masters of cloning, Creality anycubic etc so they can try those and see if the result is better. My opinion that probably doesnt worth much is when you buy something expect it to work good with the tools that the company advertises and provides. Dont expect for to cater to your individual needs.
