Availability of Textured Powder Coated Spring steel sheet
Is there any news on availability of the Textured Powder Coated Spring steel sheet?
Seems that production of these sheets is short in respect of demand from the market.
My order for an MK3 is still delayed upon the receipt of new Powder coateed spring steel sheets, as I was informed by the support team (via chat).
The shipping info table from august 2, shows that orders from wk 19 still needs to be shipped, my order is from wk 25.... Should this meand I need to be patiend for another month?
Some info would be nice, as Im already thinking to change to smooth pei sheet, and ordering the powdercoated when available.
Some more info on what is holding back the current orders and some time frame should be nice.
Kind regards,
Thijs

I would wait it out. I waited 3 months for my printer last year (ordered 9/26 delivered 12/18) and the sticker is not great. unless you let it fully cool it will tear or bubble up. especially when printing higher temp plastics. and replacing the stickers is not fun or easy.
i am waiting right now to purchase powdercoated sheets because they are more durable and the powdercoat is a much better finished surface ( i bought one 3rd party)
The printer is good but you can wait a bit

Have had some e-mail conversation with the support team, and indeed I'm convinced to wait for the powder coated version.

Re: Availability of Textured Powder Coated Spring steel sheet
I'm going to be a bit contrarian and suggest going with the smooth PEI sheet. I ordered in January and got switched to the smooth sheet, finally getting my printer in late March. In hindsight, I'm glad I got started actually printing rather than waiting for a different texture on my crappy learning prints. Once the PC beds become readily available, I'll be able to order one. At that point, I'll be able to print decent prints with the sexy texture when I want, but have a smooth backup available.

After seeing the post where somebody had material bond too tightly to the PC bed and the consequent damage that resulted trying to get the print off, I'm not convinced a non-replaceable surface is the best for all situations. I'd rather tear the PEI sticker than gouge a powercoat surface. The best option (IMO) is to have both. At that point, why not get started sooner with smooth?

I understand but with my order, I am 2-3 weeks by shipping if the schedule is remotely accurate. Why change now?

Like bobstro, I had the smooth sticker build plate. Printed a lot since and there's no sign of any lifting or other print damage.
And PR do have history when it comes to new things.
The 2 to 3 weeks may be accurate and if so, it probably is best to wait, but who knows? You have to do what you feel is right 🙂

Well.. I have both and I can say that the powder coated version works VERY well with PLA and PETG but not very good with ABS (large prints). Even using glue stick on the powder coated sheet for ABS still isn't perfect.
There is no lifting of the smooth PEI sheet if used with PLA but ABS will pull it up a bit but it does hold ABS better than the powder coated version.

Glue stick wouldn't be my first choice to increase the adhesion of ABS.
I'd paint the print surface with an ABS/Acetone slurry (aka "ABS juice). Mix about one part transparent ABS with ten parts acetone, let it sit overnight to completely dissolve, and apply with a paintbrush. Once applied, you will need to remove it with acetone before using the same print bed for PLA.

That isn't really the point of my post. It was for people who think the powder-coated PEI will be absolutely the best thing and demands the long wait. What I'm trying to point out is that if you print exclusively with ABS then your probably better off using the smooth PEI and not waiting for the powder-coated version.
I don't want to use any additional adhesion promoters if necessary. I run a business printing automotive parts and using anything additional slows down production and increases labor. With the smooth sticker PEI sheets I can print ABS without anything if I prep the surface with 3000 grit and clean with alcohol.
Re: Availability of Textured Powder Coated Spring steel sheet
Hi Gents,
After a couple of e-mails, the unit has been shipped with the requested Powder Coat sheet.
However info on bonding issues with various materials and the shared experiences how to overcome is nice to read, it is not related to the opening post.
Opening post was related to production capacity of coated sheets in relation to the leadtime of the products.
They advertise an MK3 kit with powder coating to have a lead time of 5-6 weeks, my experience si that it is way above that, at least double....
Everybody thanks for their support and info, private messages with tips and tricks on how to overcome certain issues are welcome.
Kind regards,
Thijs
