ASA vs ABS
I couldn't find a filament discussion section so not sure this is the best place but very pleased with this afternoons printing and wanted to share.
I've just tried the Prusament ASA (jet black) and they aren't kidding when they say its easier to print than ABS!
I print in an enclosure around 30c or so with draft shield using standard slicer settings. Previously the same print in the easy ABS from the prusa shop needed brim and modifiers on inside edges to stop it warping and lifting. The ASA has just printed without any brim and very nicely at a higher resolution with no lifting.
I used glue stick and admittedly its a bit of a job to get it off the sheet but I'm super pleased and can highly recommend it.
RE: ASA vs ABS
Interested to hear you sill use a draft shield even though you have an enclosure.
I wonder if the glue stick was necessary?
RE: ASA vs ABS
I added a draft shield after advices on here when I was printing something small in ABS and it lifted a bit in one corner. As it seemed to do the trick then I'm still using it, the print is very small so makes no odds. When I print something larger I'll try without and will try adding a skirt a few layers high if I get problems.
I'm going to carry on with the glue stick as a release agent and not risk trying without even though my prints later in the day came off the bed more easily. I wait until the sheet naturally cools to around 30C or less before removing and they are quite a bit more stuck than PLA, PETG or ABS but not at all impossible to get off. I read another post where someone was having great difficulty removing a large ASA print from their sheet so think best to be cautious.

Concur. ASA is much easier to print in every brand I have tried.

RE: ASA vs ABS
Oops, I assumed you where using the glue stick to improve adhesion.
I find this subject of additives to assist adhesion/release most confusing. Various posts seen to recommend the same additive to assist adhesion, while others recommend it to assist release.

@towlerg
Know exactly what you mean, doesn't seem to make sense that some will improve adhesion and act as a release agent at the same time, on the one hand it suggests the plastic won't stick to the bed at first and then that you'll never get it off, I guess temperature is the relevant part my head never figures into the equation.
On printing something a bit bigger I didn't bother with the draft shield and did a minor alteration of Z index and the ASA is coming out better than PLA, its really very good.

"I guess temperature is the relevant part my head never figures into the equation." That makes a lot of sense.
RE: ASA vs ABS
Just updating to add that I ran a print and forgot to put the glue stick on, adheres well to the bed and seemed easier to remove. I'm no longer going to use the glue stick. (Smooth sheet)

It will eventually catch up with you. As the plate ages, you will likely have difficulty removing it.
I recommend you use the glue stick. I ruined one plate because over adherence.

RE: ASA vs ABS
I've had great results with ASA, it's proven to be a fine asset in my material library, I still like ABS a lot also, and still get great results with it as always.
Enjoy
