Are off-site images encouraged now?

I notice on the new forums that attaching files works fundamentally different, and uploading images along with a post requires much more work.  Linking to off-site hosted pics is a single, simple step.

Is this an intentional design decision?

I honestly don't think any of the new forum changes are intentional design decisions.

Personally, I prefer the images to be with the messages. When they are hosted somewhere else and you decide to close the account there the images in the posts are lost. Unfortunately in the move to the new forum software the images got mangled, so....

The result of inadequate or no testing prior to implementation...

Some users are handy at using Dropbox, Drive, unameit to save images and create links; but some of us don't use all those tools and can't easily adopt this new way of doing things. Or like me, somewhat resistant to making a needless change.
