All these files...

Please help, I am looking for an optimized file management system to manage the model files. I find it difficult to find the .STL file for a model I need to print.

It seems I spend more searching for files, than anything else and am looking for a better way...

So how are your files organized? Is there any hope?

Thank you... I look for your suggestions.

RE:

I use directory structure to organize files.    Example,  MK4,-MK4 mods.   When building .3mf files I try to name them with a name I remember.  Some of the file names  downloaded don't make sense to me.

What is needed are tags or metadata to add to files.   .stl, .3mf etc don't support metadata.  .jpg files do.  Windows Snapping tool can take a screen image you select and save it as a .jpg in a folder of your choice.   Then you can add Tags.  Make sure Details are enabled in the fileexplorer in windows.   Pick the .jpg file, properties and in the details you can add tags.  Tags are keywords seperated by a space.     You have to pick on the pictures to see the full pucture in the post.

Then when you search, go to the top level directory and in the search bar put "Tag: the-search-name"  Here I used "bosch"

There is no "easy" way to setup a database.  See software rule #77  It takes time to put the infomation in, but once in it is useful    There are other tools to work with pictures and metadata but this is built into Windows.   Sorry don't know how Linux handles metadata, but there should be tools for Linux also.
