3D print mount for adding caster wheels to steel shelves
hi, I want to add 3” caster wheels to a metal shelves. not sure what’s the best way to do it.
I’m thinking to design a mount so I can have the feet of the shelf sit on the mount, and bolt them together, then bolt the wheels to the mount. I’m not sure if PETG-GF or ASA I have would be strong enough for this application. Or I better off buy wheels just for these shelves. I just haven’t found the wheels for them yet.
I suspect the samples pictured are made with pressed steel frames, the wheels may be plastic.
How much weight will the wheels bear? GF or CF PETG or Nylon might be enough but the design would have to be reworked to distribute the stresses if they run high.
Cheerio,

What you're looking for is probably something like this
While you can design and print something to mount on the wheels you showed and that would receive your shelf on the other end, depending on how much weight goes into that shelf I doubt it would hold for long, there's long steel bars with a lot of leverage.
I searched for "corner mount casters" to find those. Before buying anything think about what you'll put into that shelf and how much it'll weigh, then buy casters that are rated to that weight (eg 4x50kg rated casters can support up to 200kg)

For the love of god, do what @outofcheese suggested, unless the only thing you put on those shelves is stuff you don't care about. Your problem is one where I would just never trust a 3d printed solution.
