$250 Duty on Core One ??
I got an email from DHL saying that they had prepaid the duty on my order. I have a core one, camera, and MMU three for a total of about $1500. The duty they are asking for is a little bit over 250?
first question is why it’s so expensive
the second question would be how do I know that’s a legit ask. When I look up the tracking, I don’t see anything about payments, just that things are clearing?
is this the new normal?
RE: $250 Duty on Core One ??
Yep, new normal 15% tariff on imports from the EU so 225 plus fees for collection and customs clearance
RE: $250 Duty on Core One ??
Luckily the US administration has not determined the Core One to be made out of steel and aluminum yet... That would be an additional 50% tariff on the steel & aluminum portion of the product.
RE: $250 Duty on Core One ??
Pretty confident the new 50% tariffs haven't kicked in yet, so be thankful it is only 15% plus normal customs handling fees. If you can log into the US Customs database, it has the answers, but presently its behind a fairly well locked credentials wall and registration is painful: first born promises and such. Yes, plan for a cost of living increase this year of of 15%, as high as 75% for most items, including food.

The only domestic producer I can think of is Lulzbot. But I have to think most of their parts are coming from overseas and will be tariff also? But you won’t get tear off on profits and assembly costs?
RE: $250 Duty on Core One ??
Sadly, that's legit - I got almost the same bill from FEDEX this week.
If someone thought this through, there would be a tariff carve out for 3D printing: I mean, isn't the whole point to do more manufacturing in the US ? What am I doing with the printer if not manufacturing in the US ??
Prusa Core One, MK4S w/ MMU3 (formerly MK4 / MMU3, MK3S+/MMU2), 2 Prusa MINI+, Octoprint. PETG, PVB, (some) PLA.
RE:
PrintedSolid offers the CoreOne for sale. I'm not sure if they've started assembling them in the US yet. But, the price is much more than from Prusa leading me to think they aren't yet as the price looks to be Prusa's price plus the tariff and shipping/handling. ($1399 currently for the fully assembled C1.) The benefit is you know the price up front and won't be surprised when it clears customs (because it's already cleared customs). As long as you are in the "lower 48" or DC, you get "free" shipping because it's over (way over) the $50 free shipping threshold so the shipping cost is already baked into the price.

Sadly, if you look at how all the tariff levels were decided on, there was obviously no one thinking during the entire process. Us Americans are f*cked, plain and simple.

Contest it. I got a $179 duty bill from FedEx on June. I emailed them this
Given the U.S. Court of International Trade recently struck down Trump's tariffs as illegal, I'm requesting an update on the status of this invoice and if there is still any duty owed, or if the duty owed has changed due to this.
They replied that they're investigating and will get back to me but it could take up to 3 months. No word yet
It helps that they delivered my Core One and sent the duty bill later
RE:
What amazes me is how little resistance is being shown, so far, by we American people. It seems the giant is still sleeping. Double-digit inflation will jar us awake but by then it will be too late.

RE: $250 Duty on Core One ??
What I read last night is the tariffs have been deemed illegal, but the judge is letting them stand while Trump goes to court.
RE: $250 Duty on Core One ??
Thank the Orange-one. Besides the new duty (tariff) rate, the "de minimus" has been removed. That allowed shipments valued less than $800 not be subject to the tariff. (My CoreOne upgrade kit shipped just before the 'de minimus' was removed, so I paid no tariff.)
The effect is that your $100 Prusament order will cost you $15 in tariffs fees, plus the $25 charge (varies by carrier) the carrier will charge you for collecting the tariff. That's why several international shippers have suspected shipments to the US.
Hold onto your receipts. The US Court of Appeals has just ruled (July 29) most of the Orange-one's tariffs to be illegal. (Setting tariffs is congresses job.) If the Supreme court doesn't reverse that, you will be due a refund.

I meant to say...
That's why several international shippers have suspended shipments to the US.
