Bird feeder
I'm printing the bird feeder, starting off with the first part!
Tested with supports first, but they got really tall and got kicked away half way through the print.
Restarted it and printed it over night (10 hours+) without supports on really slow speeds, around 30mm/s
Got some stringing, which was really easy to remove. The downside of the model got some funky look, but totally ok as well.. its a pretty steep overhang.
Started to slice it with s3d, and that model didnt print, when it reached the "holes" in the model it kind of stopped extrude in some way... three times in a row. Switched for Slic3r, which seems to handle this model better, and it printed fine on the first print!
Re: Bird feeder
Looking good so far! I have found Prusa's version of slic3r seems to work better with this printer in general. It's amazing what it can print at times! Looking forward to seeing the full thing! 🙂

For something like this you will probably need to slow down the print speed and also use Z-Hop/Lift (0.4mm) in order to prevent the support parts collapsing. Also you need a good base for the supports, so printing on a raft may also help.

Z-hop is enabled yes, and I took down the speed to 50% for this particular print!
Printed just fine without raft! Alcohol + glue stick works great for me so far!
Waiting for some filament from hobbyking to arrive in a few days, if it prints ok I'll print the big part for this feeder.
I dont have enough PLA atm to start it 🙂
Printing small stuff atm, to not use that much PLA 🙂

I am very fortunate in that I have a local supplier of good quality PLA. Next day delivery (€5) and €19 per kilo. I do purchase specials from PR though, by way of support.
I have built up stocks of about 25 rolls at the moment... But I still keep running out of the colour I need.
Regarding the model, a raft would help the supports stick to the bed and they would be less likely to fail. And you may need to go less than 50%. My dinosaurs were printed with rafts, supports, Z-Lift, 3 loops and 20mm/s perimeters. The result (even on overhangs) was pretty good.

Well I just got the printer 🙂 In a few months I guess that I will have a closet full of filament 😀
