3D Printed RC Auto-Gyro
This is still a work in progress, but I it's coming along so I thought I'd post it here.
I was inspired by the 3dlabprint printable airplanes, and decided to teach myself Fusion 360 and attempt thin wall printing.
I've never flown an RC autogyro, but have always wanted to. I figure building my own that I can easily replace parts for while learning something about 3D design along the way was a good idea.
First videos are of the 3D printed gears, a gearbox, and a clutch assembly for a start assist system. Auto-Gyro blades spin on their own, but having something to assist with spinup could be nice.
Gears are Taulman Tech-G (PETG), and the orange stuff is Hatchbox PLA.
Here's a video of the blades spinning up just from wind. It got scary fast being so close to my face lol.

That's pretty cool and I was surprised by that rpm. With a bit larger blades and at 700 RPM you could generated a nice little off grid electric setup to charge a battery bank at a cabin or to supplement a small solar setup.
I like it 🙂
Re: 3D Printed RC Auto-Gyro
Nice Design !
Autogyros are strange beast not really plane nor Heli.
One tip: remove one of the screw per rotorblade and replace it with a tooth pick or a piece of filament. when the rotor hit something it will shear of and safes the blade.
I did this one my Hobbyling Autogyro after the blades got damaged on each rough landing and now i just have to replace the filamant piece. 😀

Haha, never really thought of doing something like that lol. I bet there are some super efficient props I could copy and 3D print for something like that.

That's a great idea. I think I will try the filament trick. I'm good at crashing.
Finally did a test of the gearbox with the full set of blades.
Video of the spinup test. It's kinda scary lol.
Anyone know if it's possible to embed youtube videos?
