The airline is free to dictate policy, they're not a government entity. Since their policy is, in their opinion, to protect their customers I see nothing wrong with their decision. I'd venture that there is more to the story than a mask problem. However, that falls into the  category of two sides to each story. We can find a large group of stories that validate our thinking; however, how true is the source?

Air travel's a special case. I'm glad to see the airlines backing their employees and putting some teeth into enforcement. Overall numbers of actual No-Fly membership are low from everything I've read, but it's a good option to cut down on the nonsense. I'm glad to read of it being used when passengers disrupt flights for any reason, not just over masks.

Not too many years ago, you'd wind up in a lot more trouble for disrupting a flight. I once witnessed a guy trying to weasel his way into a better seat and overheard the flight crew discussion next steps if he escalated. He came close to missing his connection.

The airlines certainly don't mess around these days, have not been on a plane since the end of 2019, but the last person I spoke to said there were more staff than passengers.  Maybe that's changed now.

It is not really a great environment for viral transmission, stuck in a metal tube with 100 people.

Although I believe the filters are very good, and normally HEPA standard, if someone is sitting near to you and coughs it's almost inevitable you will breath it in.

Tank you very much!

Airlines can’t maintain safety precautions of spacing and they need to protect both passengers and staff.

I haven't flown in a year myself. It's going to be interesting to be on a plane that has actually been cleaned. Finding surprises hidden in the seatback pocket was always an adventure.

I would like to know more details from the other side.  Did mom or dad threaten the airline?

Here's a good summary. Sounds like United's policy was poorly written and the crew was obliged to enforce it. Delta's is more flexible.

Here is a video from an interview, it also includes footage taken on the plane.

Basically, the child refused to wear the mask, the parents tried a lot, then simply held the mask over her face.  The flight attendant said that was not good enough and they had to leave.

This wasn't an incident of mask rage or shaming. It was a case of airline employees cooly and calmly enforcing the airline policy as written that the couple agreed to before the flight. The root cause seems to be a combination of an overly-stringent policy (which employees are obligated to follow, flawed or not), and the couple not preparing their child properly and traveling in violation of state restrictions. There are certainly no winners. United seems to be standing fast. As the article says, this is probably wise as it's a slippery slope. As the article says, they should have researched this beforehand. It does sound like Delta's policy is better written for families with small children. This one strikes me as more like a situation where a small child refused to be strapped into a car seat. You have to get kids used to things before you travel.

Never claimed it was.  I notice you still refuse to condemn mask rage, though.

See for yourself that, even here, there are those who refuse to condemn mask rage.

The comments in the article I linked to are worth a read. The couple are apparently social media "influencers" and demanded first-class seats afterward. United put them on their no-fly list instead. One can only wonder what we're not hearing about.

Exactly.  Who knows, it is possible they taught their daughter to do that on the plane.  We will probably never know.

I am not sure what mask rage is.  I surely have never seen it and think it is exceptionally rare.  No one should ever justify the fringe for fringe behavior.

Being stupid on purpose is unbecoming.

Do you condemn the act of shouting at someone for not wearing a mask?

Never seen it so it is hard to condemn something that rarely happens or had never happened in front of me.  I refuse to condemn unless I visualize it.

Is appears your account is an ALT of Bob's. You wrote two contradictory statements in your last post, you forgot which account you were posting on part way through.

Just a note, Alt-Bob, you already condemned it.  Bob-Prime did not.  Oops.

No same account.  Not even close in the US.  I refuse to condemn anyone without the facts.  Masking is a good thing.  I just have not seen this Shaming you speak of.  In my area of work, you wear a mask or you can't enter.  That pretty much includes children.

Must be honest, even I am not sure what mask rage is exactly. Not a term I have ever heard used before this thread.  I suspect you mean someone getting attacked for not wearing a a mask.

Have witnessed many people not wearing masks, but that's about it.

I said I don't think anyone would think it is acceptable behaviour to attack or shout at someone, I stand by that statement, but not sure I am keen in being used as a pawn in your debate.

Hsppy to verse my opinion, as I think everyone is fully entitled to do.

And yes, you've already seen Bob refuse to do it, so you have to believe it, you've read it yourself.
