Covid Face Shield - Rubber headband (MTB innertube)
I'm building face shields (50 if he gets the green light from his higher ups) for a friend's fire house that does not have them. I don't have the button hole elastic but do have a bunch of 26" mountain bike tubes. I noted the videos of any first responders having worn those n95 masks all day long, they have lines on their faces. That has to hurt. I came up with these rubber straps that distribute the force much better on the back of the head and are easier to clean vs a fabric/elastic strip. My friend said he much preferred the rubber strap vs elastic since it could be cleaned easier.
Any thoughts on this design? I can get, I think, eight straps per tube. I taper the ends a little so less material bunches when in place. Punched holes with a 3/8"/1cm grommet punch. Roughly 6mm/1/4" of material between the holes. Any further spaced out and the adjustments are not granular enough.
This was the first band I made. I washed the talc off the strips and advised my friend to keep that side out when wearing.
