Printer randomly shows as offline

Connect has been very reliable until recently but it now often shows as "Offline" in the browser. Typical scenario: send model from PrusaSlicer to printer (works fine), open browser window to Connect but it shows Offline so I have to walk to the printer to start the print. Eventually Connect/the printer will come back online in the browser. When Offline and idle if I check the printer console's Connect setting it will say there is an error Net Fail. See attached image.

Sometimes during printing Connect in the browser will change from Printing to Offline.

I recently installed firmware 5.0.0 on my MK4. I did not use the betas of Input Shaper. The printer is networked using an Ethernet cable. This has happened at least a half dozen times in the past week. I guess the issue is specific to Connect because even when Connect is offline I can send files using PrusaSlicer. Any suggestions?

RE: Printer randomly shows as offline

Is there possibly a file containing special characters on the flash drive? Other than that, connect has had stability issues lately. I was told it was at the provider side, so that might also be it.

I looked and see no oddly named files. I just sent it a job from PrusaSlicer and after starting the print from the console Connect is showing offline again. Pinging the printer fails too.

The pattern seems to be that the network issue happens after I send a file and start printing it. After awhile it will come back online. Maybe something in 5.0.0.

I guess ping just doesn't work. Because I could send a file from PrusaSlicer again while Connect says offline and it works fine.

Could you please give use the link to your printer, so we could take a peek at how the communications look. Just click on the printer that's making trouble and copy the link from the address bar. Thank you

Here is the link: https://connect.prusa3d.com/printer/047b71ca-8685-455c-be00-1140091e6b02/dashboard

Things have gotten worse since I first reported this as Connect no longer shows online at all. PrusaLink does work. Thanks for looking into it.

I've been having this issue as well and it seems to have started this week. The strange thing is that it seems to get worse around a certain time like 11PM to 12AM EDT. So I've wondered if it relates to usage since I think CZ is 6 hours ahead that would put it around 6 AM and thats when it seems to be the worse. Right now at 9:47AM EDT its working. Hope this helps.

Could be time related. I just noticed that as of 12:26pm EDT mine is showing online.

Hi, could you confirm if this is a short-term flashing to offline/online back and forth or if it is rather a more permanent disconnection in the order of hours/minutes? From the text above it seems like both scenarios? Do you suggest it went worse with the 5.0.0 firmware update? Do you keep seeing the error message "Net fail" on the printer's lcd or any other error messages?

In case of the short-term back and forth flashing (without any errors shown on the printer) we made a slight correction today which should help. Could you please give it a try and report back?

Thank you so much for your patience.

For me specifically it stays disconnected for minutes to hours. But currently it is connected and I'll test it tonight to see if it stays connected. Thanks!

Same problem here: https://connect.prusa3d.com/printer/9bbcafb5-1592-4ae9-b3f0-7556c476d290/dashboard

The printer (XL single) shows as offline for hours at a time. I've had it printing constantly for several days now, working through a bunch of print jobs. It shows as offline right now in fact, even though the printer is on the WIFI network, and is currently printing.

Happening here too. It seems like every evening (East coast USA) the printer shows offline in PrusaConnect, PrusaLink can find it though.

getting anxious for OctoPrint support in 5.1.

Another thing I noticed tonight is my XL goes offline all the time but my MK3S with a RPi 3B hardly ever goes offline.

Same problem here with my Mk4. Randomly goes offline, and then randomly comes back on.

Same issue on my Mk4.  Issues began concurrent with installing 5.0 last week on release day.  Also unable to authenticate to PrusaLink (won't accept password displayed on the network setup screen).  I hooked up an ethernet cable and that didn't seem to help either.

RE: Printer randomly shows as offline

I recently built my MK4 kit and added it to Connect on Sept 15th using wifi. I then networked my Mini+ via ethernet and added to Prusa Connect on the 21st after loading the Alpha firmware.

Both printers are constantly going offline in Connect and then randomly returning to connected status. I've set DHCP reservations on both printers. When showing offline I'm still able to access the printers on the network via PrusaLink and I can send gcode direct to the printers from PrusaSlicer.

I'm only running a few hobbyist printers in my home office but I do love the Connect features to monitor my printers, transfer files, start prints etc. and its very frustrating right now with the lack of stability.

If you'd like any additional info let me know. I usually power my printers off at night or on days when I'm not actively printing but if it helps I can leave them up for a few days.

RE:

Seeing this banner on the Connect page today. Perhaps an acknowledgement of the printer offline issues and that it is being worked on.

Fingers crossed and both my printers are currently showing online in Connect.

Yep, we re-cojigured stuff and that prompted a re-start, we knew this was going to happen so we put up a banner. Not sure if that fixed it, but whatever we intended to have happen has already happened, so if that was it, it should work better now. 🤞
