So still no FW 3.1.3? How we can know there is a new update when we downgraded to 3.1.0? Of course it shows there is a new FW.

My Buddy Cam for the Core one has the same issue. I only noticed it being weird after I had shut down the printer after which I had to re-pair the camera. Then after updating the firmware for the core one the Camera was once again disconnected. I then tried rebooting just the camera (after I paired it again) and it immediately became unresponsive. The only 'work around' is keeping the printer and camera both powered on, which isn't very feasible of course.

All this to say, I would also love a fix!

I have the same issue with no '_' in my SSID. All I have is a space, 2 parentheses, and a period.

RE: Buddy Cam Core One Wifi connection failed after update to FW 3.1.2

I have the same problem with 3.1.2. The camera that came with the C1L had 3.1.0 but was updated to 3.1.2. Now, it no longer reconnects to WiFi after restarting or power cycling the camera.

I doubt that special characters in the password are the problem - after all, the camera connects just fine when showing the QR code. Only after power cycling, it fails to reconnect to that same WiFi. My guess would be the combination of 2.4GHz and 5GHz on the same SSID. All my WiFi equipment is Ubiquiti Unifi - this is the only device having problems; the printer works flawlessly on that same SSID!

Frankly, it’s unfortunate that Prusa does not have a ticketing system for support. It would be so much easier to correlate these reports, or provide additional information, if Prusa used a proper support tracker. I have a large email thread open with various issues I encountered with my new C1L, but it’s impractical to track progress this way.

RE:

I believe they confirmed it is special characters. I am also all ubiquity. I created a network ssid and password with no special characters and the camera works just fine on that.

Just as a data point - mine connects to my primary 2.4G/5G mesh network successfully (Eero wifi 6).  SSID is all uppercase, password is 11 mixed alphabetic.

It also connects successfully to my 2.4G IoT network with a mixed-case SSID including a hyphen, with a 16 character lowercase plus numerics password.
I've no idea what's causing connection errors for some.

From a Danish Prusa FB site I found this:

The problem is identified and fixed in the development firmware.
What you can do - try deleting one character from the password, if that doesn't work, try a password that is multiplies of 8. (8,16,24,32 characters)

The problem is in the encryption library that adds "whitespace", you can't control this.

This might explain why only some people are having problems, and not always because the SSID or password has bad characters.

I interperate this statement from the other site to mean that there is a bug in the firmware that causes some encryption key(s) to be generated in an invalid way, and these keys are based on your SSID and password.

In this case, it would make sense that the problem is that some people's specific combinations of SSID and passwords generate bad keys, so changing either one, even by one character, would generate different keys, likely valid ones. That is why deleting special characters worked for several of us, because it was the act of changing the values, not which specific values were changed, that fixed the problem.

I can't change my main SSID because, frankly, I'm too lazy to change all the little projects I have set up around the house, so for now I'm just staying on the older FW until a fix is released

I have had a lot of problems with my Current Internet provider and changes to the WiFi passwords so I Now have a secondary router for the Wifi for CCTV, alarm, 3d printers etc and only have my laptops on the new faster Wifi. this way I have no need change other devices. regularly the laptops can automatically switch to the old internet logon if the primary option becomes ug available

RE: Buddy Cam Core One Wifi connection failed after update to FW 3.1.2

Hi,

I think it’s very unlikely that the issues are caused by  “strange characters in password” or “bug in encryption library” - after all, the camera DOES connect to WiFi initially; it just fails to reconnect after the camera is restarted / power cycled.

It would be great if there were a way to communicate and collaborate with Engineering to get this regression (somewhere between 3.1.0 and 3.1.2) found and resolved.

Not sure why Customer Support is not active on this thread as I made them aware of it's existance. To all, this is the reply I received from them:

Thank you for your message and sharing a follow-up with the case. It seems the issue along with the firmware might be related to the password you are using for your network, either the length of any of those or the use of special characters. The team has shared some additional steps that could help using the latest camera firmware version. Please try deleting one character from the password; if that doesn't work, try a password that is multiples of 8 (8, 16, 24, 32 characters). The team is aware of the current case and is working on a fix in the next firmware version for the camera, if the last pieces of advice doesn't help, please keep using the previous firmware until the team has release the new version.

I have no intention in changing my wifi password atm as this would just mean to change it on all my clients..so I rather stick to the older firmware for now until a new firmware is released

Hi Daniel,

From the Support reply you quoted, it seems that they still do not fully understand the issue that I have reported - and I worked with Support showing them the exact problem I’m facing.

So it seems my only hope is that they accidentally fix the issue in a future firmware update 😉

RE: Buddy Cam Core One Wifi connection failed after update to FW 3.1.2

Hello,

Same problems. However, with firmware version 3.1.0. Very frustrating after assembling the Core One. Not a great experience.

I couldn't get the camera to connect to my Wi-Fi. I first had to set up a subnet with a simple SSID and a 'simple' password. Neither contained special characters, spaces, or anything similar. Only then did it work. Luckily, I still had an unused second router. However, this cannot be a permanent solution!

What also surprises me is that no software update to version 3.1.2 is being offered? As has been mentioned here several times. I received the camera with a shipment last week. Accordingly, the camera does not switch to color mode.

As mentioned before, it's all very frustrating and feels completely unfinished and extremely cobbled together. Especially I can't find any reactions or information from Prusa about it anywhere?

Maybe they have silently withdrawn the 3.1.2 release? There is no way to know really since the repository is not public.

3.1.2 is still available

I personally have blocked my cameras from accessing the OTA DNS server to keep them on 3.1.0 for now

RE:

I'm having this same issue. At first I thought it was because my SSID was hidden, but I unhid it and it still happens. The only "special" character in the SSID is a space. There are just upper/lower alpha chars in the password, no special characters, no spaces, 16 chars long. SSID is 13 chars, upper lower and space.

Connection is perfect once I add the network via QR code, but when the printer is powered up again, the camera will not reconnect: Wifi connection failed.

Also SSID is on 2.4ghz only.

As a test, I created a copy of the SSID without the space, and the camera still fails to reconnect on power on with the new sanitized SSID.

RE: Buddy Cam Core One Wifi connection failed after update to FW 3.1.2

I have the same issue, i first setup the Camera and it auto updated to 3.12. got it running then it disconnected and would not re-connect, unless you reconnected it manuallly. Reading the forums it seemed 3.10 did not have this issue i downgraded an now it constantly disconnects and re-connects, sitting next to the printer i hear a message when it reconnects sometimes this happens every 30 seconds to 2 mins. It is insane. Never. mind trying to get a timelapse of your print, first disconnect and that is done.

For a company that produces some excellent printers, this camera is a disappointment, waste of money and frustrating.

Prusa, you need to fix these issues especially since this camera is basically  only useful in your ecosystem.

I expect no response from Prusa, this camera seems to be a side product that  will never get the support/fixes it needs

3.1.1 stable, but what is your Hardware version

Sadly this hasn't been resolved yet – I've been on an email chain with Prusa support or a few days now (who I must say are always very good), and have had a second camera sent to me by the UK supplier I bought it from (EDS 3D, who are also great). Sadly it's the same problem – as soon as I install 3.1.2, the WiFi connection will fail every time the camera reboots.

I've downgraded to 3.1.1, which gives me FHD and live streaming over my local network and it's been stable for days. The app has a button saying that I should click it to download the new firmware, but as long as I ignore this, all is good and the camera reconnects fine.

I noticed that the camera I have, and the replacement I was sent has a 'Hardware version' of NB.1.1.0 (screen grab attached). Can I ask please if anyone else here can have a look at the camera in their Connect app (when the camera's connected) and see if their Hardware version is the same? I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I wonder if the firmware update is only having an issue with some hardware versions? It doesn't make sense that everyone isn't complaining about this, but there is clearly something wrong.

For info, I'm using an IoT-specific 2.4GHz section of my WiFI network, the network name and password contains only letters and numbers, my Core One+ is on the same network and the camera is stable and reliable using 3.1.1.

To get to this version I modified the link given above to be this: https://connect-ota.prusa3d.com/file/cam-3.1.1.tar and renamed the file that it downloads to be cus_update_ota.tar. Putting this file on a FAT32-formatted microSD card, inserting it into the camera WHILE IT'S POWERED OFF, then powering the camera up has it automatically update to this firmware and then it runs fine.

RE: Buddy Cam Core One Wifi connection failed after update to FW 3.1.2

I spoke to soon. I *thought* the camera didn't reconnect, but it in fact works fine with the new sanitized SSID. So it seems that the camera definitely does not like SSIDs with spaces in them.
