Static Shock Power Fail

I have an MK4 in a Prusa Enclosure that is resetting whenever a static shock occurs between it and a person.

I have the same issue. Did you find a solution?

RE: Static Shock Power Fail

I just occurred to me that I too was experiencing this issue regularly last winter after I installed my MK4 into the enclosure.  But this year it isn't happening at all.  I moved my LCD display back inside the enclosure on the printer (too much of a pain to disconnect/reconnect when pulling the printer out) which might be helping.

My display is mounted to my printer. I am probably going to test grounding the enclosure to see of that helps.

RE: Static Shock Power Fail

I had this issue also.

The enclosure needs to be grounded! I'm a 35 year electrician here in the states, so have a little background in grounding and bonding.

When testing the enclosure for continuity I found that the enclosure is isolated from the power supply's ground and the individual pieces are not electrically connected together either. This is not an acceptable practice, at least not here. Here all metal parts on an appliance should be electrically connected. If somehow the enclosure would get power on it you would never know and could get a nasty shock, not to mention what's happening to the printer with the static.

So I bonded the enclosure to the power supply ground with a 16awg jumper wire. Walked around on the carpet until I was giving the enclosure a pretty strong static discharge arc and problem resolved. Disconnected the jumper and was back to having the printer restart when I touched the enclosure.

Getting all the metal pieces of the enclosure bonded together would be a different story though. Either scraping of the coating under a screw head at each connection point, maybe star washer under a screw head at each connection point, or disassemble the whole enclosure and clean off the coating on the mating surfaces at each connection point. Haven't decided which yet.

Hope this helps, and maybe even be brought to the attention of the Prusa engineers.
