Silver Power Supplies
Firstly, I was really impressed with the packaging. A really professional job been done there. 🙂
However, not impressed with the instruction or build regarding anything to do with the older silver power supply. Instructions don't even acknowledge it as an option. Had to removed a rail and tip the heat bed to wiggle free the power supply and then I had to remove one of the short extrusion pieces under power supply so I could turn it 90° as the t-nuts are on the top in the older design and not on the side like with the black power supply. Finally, the cable's a bit too short so snipped the tie-wrap off and to finish it off the power supply is a wonky looking ugly object. I'm not impressed TBH. I'm sure if I had a newer black power supply it would be easier and look better. Anyway, it is what it is.
The actual enclosure is nice and strong. I like it. The style, construction, etc., all good.
RE: Silver Power Supplies
Completely agree. My original MK3 still had the silver supply. Seemed silly to upgrade it to the black one just so that it would be compatible with the way it attaches to the back. But in the end, I did purchase a black one just because I did not want to deal with having to design my own part to make it fit. I think the instructions are nice, but they do not address many things like the older power supply, etc. And even with the new black power supply kit that came with the wires, I found the wires to be too short and had to cut the zip tie at the printer just like you did to get it to fit. Did your silver PSU fit the bracket they supply with the enclosure? They make snap-in t-nuts you can use on the side instead of removing the current ones and / or turning the extrusion. They should have also made a support bracket that had flanges on the side and top to accommodate both versions.

RE: Silver Power Supplies
Hi,
the enclosure is prepared for the silver PSU as well, we will add it to the instructions within few days. The documentation will be gradually extended to cover all the possible scenarios.
Only if you want to get the quick-release cable, then you need the black PSU.

Thank you for the update. My enclosure is in transit, so looking forward to the updated instructions
RE: Silver Power Supplies
Hi.
If you are wondering about installing the silver PSU on the Original Prusa Enclosure, at least here's a quick overview of the differences for the silver PSU. We are working on the instructions, that will be included in the assembly manual soon. Thank you for your patience.
Fasteners are already included in your kit.
Before you start preparing the printer for the silver PSU, print the Silver-PSU-retainer. Download the STL file here: https://media.printables.com/media/prints/251931/stls/2324039_fe488797-603b-461d-9fda-c350e12035ad/silver-psu-retainer.stl
Follow the instructions in the assembly manual, but note these differences for the silver PSU:
- Removing the PSU - After removing the silver PSU from the printer frame, you will need to reposition two M3nE nuts in the short left aluminum extrusion from the top position to the left side position. And the anti-vibration foot to the bottom.
- Also, you will need temporarily remove the left short aluminum extrusion from the frame to remove the PSU with the PSU cables out of the printer frame. Then you can attach the frame support to the printer. But, don't forget to tighten the M5x16r screws (securing the aluminum extrusion) diagonally!
- PSU holder - There is a cutout on the PSU holder that must be bent out. You will attach the PSU cover using two M3x8 screws.
- Silver-PSU-retainer - Make sure you use the correct version of the PSU retainer. Notice the differences. There are the same three magnets 20x6x2 for the Silver-PSU-retainer. On the silver PSU, the Silver-PSU-retainer must be fixed on the side using the M4x5r screw, notice the correct position of the parts.
The following instructions in the manual are already identical for both types of PSU.

Ah damned, I needed the enclosure so my print would finally work (lot of warping in my room due to wierd ventilation)... Would it be possible to get the Silver PST retainer some other way ?
RE: Silver Power Supplies
Forget that request, the god of 3dprint has allowed the print to succeed ^^.
RE: Silver Power Supplies
Thank you for the instructions. They worked well and I have finished the build. Works well
RE: Silver Power Supplies
Hi there!
I believe all of you already have your Silver PSU successfully installed on the enclosure. Anyway, I am reporting that the Silver PSU instructions are already part of the official assembly manual on https://help.prusa3d.com .
RE: Silver Power Supplies
Only if you want to get the quick-release cable, then you need the black PSU.
With a bit DIY you can do it with the Silver as well…Mod for those who want to use a quick release with the silver power supply in the Original Prusa Enclosure
Greetings 👋🏻
RE: Silver Power Supplies
Do I need to just get the parts in your list or do I have to buy the $46 quick release option for the enclosure?
