Watchdog Reset
Hey Mates,
The Prusa Mini is my first 3d-Printer and i´m in love with this!
I get mine on yesterday and startet to print the samples from flash drive. (After I updated the driver to 4.0.5)
The "Prusa"-sign was 2 times perfectly. then I startet to print the screw and all 3 times i tried there was an "Watchdog reset (picture 1)
As is tried to print the "boat" there was the same failure.
One Whistle came perfectly out of the printer and another is in progress (all my prints are on picture 2)
(on the right hand side you cam see my "screws")
May it helps:
Alter "continuing" the printer the XYZ-axes ware completely wrong adjusted (for example: Y ist in the middle and in Software it stands at "-3". I hope i could get some help over here.
Anyway.. many thanks for reading this.

Problem found.
The included Stick is broken.
I have taken another stick and now it runs great!

RE: Watchdog Reset
Had the same issue with my first print, and exchanged the stick, which works since then.
Which brings me to the point, that I need to test the Prusa USB Stick if it is broken or just not correctly formatted 😉
RE: Watchdog Reset
Same here. I had 3 watchdog errors while printing with the supplied USB after formatting it and using it again the problem was solved.

RE: Watchdog Reset
Update:
I got a watchdog error while printing and using the supplied usb stick. Even reformatted it created this error. Now I will leave it aside and try to print only with mine and see how that works out.

RE: Watchdog Reset
Same Watchdog issue her.
Formating the stick helped.
RE: Watchdog Reset
Same thing happened with me. A lot of Watchdog errors, until I used another USB stick.
I haven't had any problems (with that at least) since I changed the stick.
RE: Watchdog Reset
Used a new stick and reformatted it. Resets still happening.

@whmacintosh
I would suggest, contacting support.
They are very very helpful.
RE: Watchdog Reset
Watchdog reset is a generic error trap, basically something that was expected to happen didn't within a given timer period. So there are many reasons why this error could occur, ranging from hardware fault to software bug, or misoperation. Unfortunately, the watchdog doesn't report what operation time out, so we have to examine the context to get clues.
The most common cause seems to be a problem reading the USB stick. Whether that is because of bad USB sticks, or a firmware bug affecting specific sticks, we don't know.
Other common causes are faults with heater or thermistor, and also if you have a particularly cold environment for the printer the software can throw false errors.
Like all problem solving, it's a question of systematically examining the data and trying fixes until the problem goes away.

@herbert
I have and haven’t gotten a reply yet.

@bobcousins
I suspect it is the USB extension cord
RE: Watchdog Reset
I haven't had the opportunity (or interest!) to fully test the cause of this failure, but after experiencing a second reset I copied the gcode file directly from the PrusaMini USB stick to another USB storage device (a cheap+plastic USB/microSD reader containing a brand new [virgin] Sandisk Ultra 16GB microSD card), and the resultant print was fine ... as was every other iteration thereafter.
This gives me the impression that the issue with the provided drive is temporary (assuming that the problem is ONLY the drive and not within the printer), given that the file itself was not corrupted BEFORE OR BY THE RESET, and so from the heat of the drive when removed I'm tempted to believe that the reset issue is simply because the USB stick overheats.
Perhaps a (cheap?) metal USB stick is a bad choice for a 3D printer? 🤯
Maybe cooling the stick while inserted would prove this hypothesis?
Hopefully the Prusa team will provide us with network printing directly from Prusa Slicer soon and this issue will be moot.
RE: Watchdog Reset
Hi
I've had this a few times, everytime when i do something which uses power on the same coord as my mini .. tuning on/off a small lamp - i might be tha lamp that uses too much power idk.
I'll try doing some experimenting with it.

RE: Watchdog Reset
I too had repeated Watchdog Resets when trying to print from the included USB drive. Even after copying the files off the drive, reformatting it, and replacing all the files back onto it the same thing occurred.
Using a different USB drive with those same files does not result in the Watchdog Resets. So in my case the USB drive was the issue. Prusa’s support was great (as usual) at assisting to figure this out.

@neilb
what FW version do you have installed? Try to flash the newest one.

@neilb
I tested USB with one of flash testing tools overnight and there were no errors. It just behaves erratically, unmounts from computer if I proceed to copy something and printer sometimes does not read it, have to insert it twice. I tossed it in the junk drawer and use more reliable stick instead.
RE: Watchdog Reset
Had the same problem with the usb stick. Using it with an extension cord "fixes" it, so it must indeed be getting too warm when close to the printer. Other sticks work though and when compared with my other USB sticks it feels warmer no matter where you plug it in.
RE: Watchdog Reset
Same issue here, replaced USB Stick with a good quality one from Amazon. Working without issues now.
RE: Watchdog Reset
Probably same issue. Even used an extension cord to begin with, but my prints randomly stopped without any error message. I'm trying a different thumb drive now.
