Problems with trapezoidal nut

Hi,

so I received my Prusa Mini+ kit something like a month ago and after some time of assembling the kit I noticed I was missing the needed trapezoidal nut. After chatting with Prusa support, they were kind enough to send one my way and a week later I could continue the assembly. But the problem was that it would not screw on the threads, not by a long shot. So my question is that is there some kind of a trick or a technique to get it in place? I have two spare ones now and I'd really know if I'm doing something totally wrong before I totally destroy another one of these nuts...

PS. I have assembled one MK3S before and I don't remember that these parts were this much of a PIA.

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

Check and see if you can visually compare the thread.

Not all leadscrews are the same pitch on the threads.

Also, check for burrs on threads and nut.

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

I had the exact same problem; no trapezoidal nuts were included in my kit and I got send the wrong replacement nut. Speak with the support and send them the model number of your Z-Axis.

You can count the thread/holes on your axis and the nut. I was trying to screw a nut with four threads onto a rod with two threads and it took some time with the chat support to figure it out.

This seems to be the case. Thanks for the quick replies! I'll contact support and hopefully receive a right item this time. Third time's the charm, right?

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

I just had the exact same problem with my kit received a couple days ago—4-thread nut and a 2-thread z-axis rod. Found this post which led me to contact support without wasting too much time. Well, it is going to be a week before I could get a replacement nut.

Seems kinda odd that the rod and the nut were placed together in the same box, right next to each other in foam packing and nobody is bothering to check that these are the right parts. . . I suspect MANY customers are struggling to get that nut onto the rod!

Gave support lots of details, macro photos etc. to hopefully improve quality of kits going forward. Was told there are two possible z motors and two possible nuts, and mine was a combo that does not work. Hoping I don’t get the same nut again. That would be maddening.

Good to hear that this post was useful to you!

That is even stranger to receive two incompatible parts in the same package than to not receive either one at all. On the second round I stated to the support representative that make sure it fits the axial rod in mini, he said he will and still got a 4-threaded nut, so there really seems to be some mix ups and wrong information there.

PS. I got the right nut on the third round of contacting support!

Interesting. . . I am hoping I don’t have multiple setbacks—I’d like to finish my build. I am curious, however—when I contacted support I used the online chat feature which worked nicely and allowed us to have a discussion about the situation in near real-time. They are sending a replacement nut, but I did not receive any notification about our “chat”. I am hoping this is happening, as I don’t want to lose days wondering if they are sending something. Did you get any sort of notification when receiving support that included parts being sent?

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

For anyone following along, I started a new chat with support to check status—was told that the previous support rep did indeed setup the part delivery and that, to cover any mixup, requested TWO different trapezoidal nuts. I think the point being that a mixup here will end up costing more in international shipping than both parts are worth.

I was given a DHL tracking number, though I see that it has merely been created today and not yet in transit.

I hope you’ll get the part on your first try.

I used the same way to contact support and tbh it worked really well. I received an email from UPS/DHL the next day of the conversation declaring that a parcel is coming my way.

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

Received my DHL shipment today, so this was really fast in my opinion. Inside a small envelope was a box, and inside that was a padded bag and three (3) trapezoidal nuts. They all look identical and they all look correct (two-thread). Tried all three and the each fit my Z-Axis lead, so I am back in business and ready to continue the kit build this weekend.

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

Not a good (horrible) experience with PRUSA support.

Received PRUSA Mini + kit for Christmas this year from relatives who live over 400 miles away.

Assembly went well until I realized that there was no "Trapezoid nut" in the kit.

Contacted support via chat. Things start to turn sour.

Support personnel stated the they require the following:

1.  A copy of the order and billing (this was a gift and I had neither)

2.  A photo of every bag that came with the kit. (I counted over 20 bags!).  I uploaded the photos but they failed in delivery because of the file size exceeded the upload limit.

3.  The serial number, which I provided.

In addition, I was informed that they could only send a replacement part to the address of the original purchaser of the printer (Who lives over 400 miles from me!) and not the end user which is me!

For one damn "Trapezoid nut", I am having the jump through very unfriendly hoops.  Why didn't they just cover the missing item screw up with expediting shipping of the part directly to me!

Tempted to toss unit.

A company is only as good as its support.

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

That does not sound good. Sad to hear about another trapezoid nut problem. I can understand why Prusa may not want to send a free nut to anyone who requests one, but good customer service would dictate the need to acknowledge the possibility they forgot to add one to the box, just like the added the wrong one to my box. It happens. Your serial number at minimum should be enough to prove you have an actual machine in your possession, and they should be able to grasp the concept of a gift, especially at different addresses given the remote lives we have all been leading these past two years!

You are right—it should not be this difficult, and I hope you can resolve the issue. I have been using my Prusa Mini+ (once I received the nut) happily now for about a year, and I it was a great value, even with the added time it took to get the replacement. I suspect with shipping, Prusa did not make much money, if any, off me as a customer, but they should know by know that follow through with customers in need can transform into word-of-mouth praise. I have recommended this printer more than once, so it has worked for me and perhaps they recover some of the costs for their poor parts accounting quality control.

I had the same problem with a build a month ago and had them send me some new nuts. But damn if some brass ones aren't enticing to avoid a future failure. They should thoroughly test these nuts before distributing them.

RE: Problems with trapezoidal nut

Reviving an old thread here, but I am having the exact same problem with the trapezoid nut, except I ordered a replacement for my existing one, and the new one was not the same pitch. Contacted support, provided the serial number of the printer, and the only response I received was: 'It's the right one, it should fit.'

In my mind 'should' is not quite good enough...
