New arrived Mini: extruder doesn't work

My extruder doesn't work at a today new arrived and fresh assembled Mini. It never load's the filament. I have sharped the end of filament, put it in the lower tube till it stops, pressed Load and nothing happens as jamming. Opening the cap shows a never rotating gear. Also with power off it was only once a little bit possible to rotate the gear manually - it seam's to be locked...

That's terrible on a new and not cheap device. Unfortunately I don't know anything about this extruder type. At other machines there's a knob to override the grip to fill in filament and to remove it quickly if hotend is hot to change the filament. How it works at Mini? The extruder, extruder problems and filament fill in and change procedure isn't described enought at manual... or where can I find more? What's to do to make the extruder working??

Pls. help me!

Thanks,

Lutz

If the gear doesn't turn, it is likely the grub screw has come loose. This seems to be a regular occurrence.

Thank's ... but what is the grub screw and where I find this? At the stepper side are 2 screw's to dissassamble the whole unit. If I show at the tube in side, there is a screw below the tube with direction into the extruder unit (at stepper side there's a arrow to this screw). Is it the grub screw? What does it make? Should I tighten it?

I've tighten the screw below tube in. It feel's that there's a spring behind (it cracks so). But the upper gear isn't movable manually, even if tighten or loose...

@lr66 I had also problems with extruding PLA (not PETG?!), so I tried different things last thing which helped was disassambling the extruder once and checked if all moving parts are working as expected.

The gear was blocked. I've opened the unit and the small gear was not mounted correct at it's axle - to far from stepper related to the large gear. After half a rotation the gear blocked. I mounted it in line with the large gear and now I was able to rotate and feed manually. It's a shame: this Mini is a gift for a Newbie and I had the hope, a higher priced original printer is better to start then a cheap chinese clone. Quality control?

A direct embedded photo. The extruder gear was totally blocked. If you have problems or - like me - total disfunction, align the gears together so that they are able to rotate smoothly.

Now the next problems available (nozzle temp he decided 170 for PLA - a value wether from file nor from preheat value nor from filament loading, clogging, cracking while extruding, testing with delivered usb stick models -> say's 100% complete, but upper layers were absend). Nice gift I've bought - more a great construction site...

@lr66

Thanks for the post. I was having a similar problem after assembling my new mini. After reading this thread to decided to take the extruder apart. As you can see from the picture the gear on the motor is missing. Now what? I am having trouble finding how to contact support. The site indicates there is a chat service but I can't find it or any other way to contact support. Any suggestions?

If you can't see the chat pop up option , its probably because you haven't logged in to the website.

RE: New arrived Mini: extruder doesn't work

It’s not difficult but a pain to clear a blockage in the extruder gears. Two screws hold the extruder assembly to the frame then 4 or so further screws to undo the actual assembly. I’ve also had to do it twice today, the first since I got the MINI last month.
