First time setup best practices
Very excited that my first 3d printer has finally shipped! I've been reading this forum quite a bit to understand how to get off on the right foot with the Mini. It seems like there are some common items to check; belt tensions, probe heights, and other things that could have gotten jostled around in shipping.
Has anyone come across a video or a consolidated list of first-time use best practices and things to check beyond the standard installation instructions and calibration process?
RE: First time setup best practices
I had version 1 so mine was a bit different (re-do zipties for them not damage MINDA probe, allow enough cable slack on X axis, put a pad under electronic box because protruding screws scratch table surface). But these are now gone with new revisions, still, there are few things to pay attention to. In general, given most common problems I see people reporting, here may be some things to check:
- Moving hotend up a bit according to this video; if underextrusion issues continue, change inner PTFE tube for one with correct length
Loosen extruder idler a little bit - Check grub screws and tighten them (many reported wobbles caused by loose screws
- Make sure your XZ assembly is perpendicular enough to Y bottom part. It may require tightening 3 screws in certain order and checking which one has the biggest effect. I did it while having paper under the nozzle and moving bed and X carriage along whole surface, while nozzle lightly brushed the paper. If it caught on paper somewhere or was too high and not touching it, I re-did screws to adjust it. It's laborious but I think it helped, rest gets taken care of by mesh bed levelling.

Thanks, those all sound like good tips!
